12 Jun MIPS Name Change Announced for Advancing Care Information (ACI)
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), has announced a name change for the ACI category under the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) to the Promoting Interoperability performance category.
Don’t panic! This is not a new performance category, just a name change. CMS feels the name change better reflects their increase focus on interoperability to improving patient access to health information.
The 2018 requirements for this category are exactly the same as what was finalized in the final rule for 2018 ACI performance category. The participation requirements, weighting and scoring are all the same as the ACI category. CMS is in the process of updating the 2018 measure specification document to reflect the name change. The specifications themselves are still the same. Additionally, CMS is also changing the name of the EHR Incentive Programs to the Promoting Interoperability Programs. For additional information please visit https://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Legislation/EHRIncentivePrograms/index.html
